For a quick getaway from the city, to recover, revive and relax, we recommend Casa Radu, in Snagov. It is new, well taken care of, small and intimate; they have a beautiful swimming pool and many various flowers, trees and bushes: the garden is luxurious, like the most part of the environment there in Snagov.
You have probably heard of Snagov; it is a touristic attraction because of the Snagov Monastery, the small monastery on the island on the lake, where the remains of Vlad Tepes the Impaler , a.k.a. Dracula, lie.
It’s not far from Bucharest, a mere 30 minutes trip by minibus, and even less by car, and it is doable as a daytrip, but we think it is worth staying there for one night and enjoy the coolness of the garden and of the swimming pool, the home made traditional Romanian meals, and take some more trips in the area. To say nothing of the events: organized summer parties, open air- garden cinema, soccer games shown on the projector, etc.
There are more things to do in Snagov than people usually know of. One of Ceausescu’s residences is there, on a huge piece of land, a modern castle that hasn’t been open to the public until recently; you can be sure not many people have seen it so far. Next to it there is Gheorghe Gheorghiu Dej’s residence; although almost none of the tourists are aware of him, he was the first communist ruler/president of Romania, and it is said that his residence is even more opulent and striking than Ceausescu’s. As soon as the tours are organized and the prices are set, we will write an update of this article; so, stay tuned!
