Summer is coming, so we have some itinerary propositions for you for visiting Romania. They will be published one by one so don’t expect to find them all here right now. We will start with the most popular and finish with the most unlikely of the routes. There will be routes for history lovers, water lovers, mountain lovers and East Europe aficionados. Places, prices and time.

No 1 :   The Classic Itinerary

Bucharest – Sinaia – Brasov – Bran – Sighisoara – Sibiu – Cluj-napoca

Time: 6 days; price breakdown- see footer of article

Day 1 :

Bucharest: visit the Palace of the Parliament: the tour takes 45 minutes and you need an ID in original, not copy, to be able to take the tour. In the afternoon, take the free “Walking Tour of  Bucharest”, lead by a group of nice and enthusiastic young people. It takes around 2 hours, and you can check details about what they show you on their website here. You can have supper in the most beautiful restaurant in the country, Caru cu Bere : very affordable prices, incredibly beautiful restaurant, very nice service, a huge menu for all tastes, and in the evening, dance shows.

Day 2 :

Bucharest: visit the Museum of the Peasant ( in Piata Victoriei) and the Village Museum ( a beautiful open-air museum, where they have real houses, 50 to 200 years old, taken apart and rebuilt in the museum; houses, water mills, wind mills, churches ).  A few other museums could also be interesting to see: the History Museum, the Natural History Museum, the Geology Museum, the Military Museum. The afternoon is good to have a stroll in one of the parks ( Herastrau, Tineretului) where you can rent a bike for free for 2 hours ( with your passport only) and have a soda at a terrace on the lake shore. Or, you can take the Double Decker City Bus around Bucharest.

Day 3 :

Sinaia and Brasov: leave in the morning, by train, and stop at Sinaia to visit the Peles castle and possibly the Sinaia monastery. Continue by train to Brasov, where you can check-in one of the hostels there. Visit the center of Brasov and the Black Church.

Day 4 :

Bran and Sighisoara – go see Bran castle, the famed “Dracula castle”. The castle is pretty small so it will not take long; and as the guide will also tell you, Vlad Tepes, “Dracula” only spent one night in here, as a prisoner; it was never his castle.  Take the train and go to Sighisoara (3 hours by train); visit the old center, the place where Vlad Tepes was born, and some other points of interest. If you have the time you can contact Wanderlust Tours and take one of their tours. We only heard amazing things about them and the price is good. Take a late train to Sibiu.

Day 5:

Sibiu: visit Sibiu. It was chosen the cultural capital of Europe, together with Luxemburg, a few years ago, so there is a lot to see. Take an evening train and go to Cluj.

Day 6 :

Cluj-Napoca: visit Cluj, a very nice and old city. Visit the Turda salt mine, the UFO, a place close to Cluj, to restore your health and get some real – natural – unprocessed salt.
